Loss of Prep Form

What is a Loss of Prep?

Did you know that everyday you are guaranteed an uninterrupted prep time? This is one of the benefits previous WEA union leaders worked hard to get for you.

The description of prep time can be found in the contract on page 24: Article VII: Hours and Workload, Section D: Duty Free Lunch/Preparation Periods.

“All Middle School and High School classroom teachers will have, in addition to their lunch period, a full and uninterrupted preparation period during which they will not be assigned to any other duties. Preparation periods will be at least as long as a typical regular class period as scheduled for that day.

All elementary teachers, in addition to their lunch period, will have at least 40 uninterrupted minutes per day to be used for individual preparation and common planning time. Common planning time may be called by the administration no more than once per month provided that administration provides teachers with an agenda for the common planning time at least 48 hours in advance. Teachers shall schedule and inform the principal of one additional common planning time period per month that shall be devoted exclusively to evaluation, grade and/or team goals.”

What to do if you Lose Your Prep.

If that time is interrupted or taken you will want to fill out a Loss of Prep Form.  After filling out the form make sure to give this to your building secretary to have the principal sign it. Upon signature you should be given a copy to hold onto. After you accrue 6 loss of preps they can be turned in for a comp day.
